About Eric

What are your roles at Five Q?

I am an Account Executive overseeing the success and satisfaction of our client partners. I also oversee the Five Q newsletter and GROK Webinar series.

Where do you live?

I live in Atlanta, Georgia, where I enjoy access to the fast pace of the city, hiking in the mountains, and the warmth of the coastal beaches.

What did you do before coming to Five Q?

Previous to 5Q, I was a Principal Consultant at TiER1 Performance Solutions, where I specialized in learning strategies, client and project management, instructional design, and leadership training.

Before joining TiER1, I was president of my own company, WeirdGuy Creative Solutions, where I offered services in identity design, knowledge management, leadership, and content development. Some of the companies I had the privilege to work with included Rockwell Collins, Hilton Hotels, and Chick-fil-A.

I was a member of the In Touch Ministries team for more than 16 years. I was a founding member of the Marketing department where I became the Art Director and later Creative Director. After 6 years in the area of design, I helped start the interactive media efforts for In Touch. As Director of the Interactive Department and Charles Stanley Institute, I developed the ministry's online properties, youth outreach, and eLearning strategic initiative. I was promoted to Vice President of Training Outreach and participated as a member of the Executive Leadership Team.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I enjoy cooking, reading, movies, biking, and hanging out with the family.

What are some surprising things people do not know about you?

I received a black-belt degree in Okinawan Isshinryu Karate, my father flew Air Force One, and I have a degree in illustration. I actually illustrated a children's book for a friend.

Advice From Eric

Eric's advice about mobile websites:

If you do not have a mobile website, you are behind. Gartner Research says that by 2013 the mobile phone will overtake the PC in how people access the web. Creating a mobile friendly version of your website takes a few steps and a little work. First, measure the mobile usage on your site and filter access to the most important areas. Next, design the site with the mobile user in mind -- having a site that looks good on several different phone screens. Finally, make sure your content changes to fit the needs of your growing audience. Remember, if users are forced to navigate a normal website on their mobile phone they are not likely to make a return visit.

Eric's advice about social media planning

When you are thinking through your social media marketing agenda, remember the concept of "home base". Home base is where you want to drive people as you engage them and begin to develop a relationship with them. Traditionally, home base is where they will get to know you on a deeper level than a tweet on Twitter or post on Facebook. Yet, stay flexible and see where you get the greatest amount of interaction. If your target audience gravitates toward Facebook, then be willing to use that as your home base.
