About Georgia

What are your roles at Five Q?

I am responsible for the Production Department, overseeing a team of highly talented developers, designers, and project managers in a distributed environment. Working with them is the best part of my job. My day-to-day work keeps me up to my elbows in systems and process analysis and improvement.

Where do you live?

I live in the greater Milwaukee area of Wisconsin. I am not native to the state but my ancestors are. One of my great-grandfathers was the first white settler in Superior, and another was treasurer of Clark County for many years. The house he built in 1895 is still there and being used as a residence (just not by me).

What did you do before coming to Five Q?

I was the Marketing, Communications, and Research Manager at Copesan in Menomonee Falls, WI. Before that I was the Director of Communications at Elmbrook Church in Brookfield, WI.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love to cook, especially curry.  I also love strenuous hikes in beautiful places at high elevation but don't get to do that nearly as often as I'd like. When I'm not eating or hiking or taking care of my family, I am an avid reader of theology, biography, business books, and fiction.

How do you take your coffee?

Cream (or half-and-half). Scalded. Milk in an emergency as long as it is not non-fat. Couple teaspoons of sugar. Couple tablespoons of really good cocoa powder. Piping hot strong black coffee—espresso or French roast preferred. Good times.

Advice From Georgia

Georgia's advice about SEO:

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is not as scary as it sounds or as complex as some make it out to be. Remember that doing something is better than doing nothing if you do the right things. With the right plan, you can start small and continue to see incremental gains as long as you make SEO a regular, ongoing part of your process. It is also significantly cheaper than most other forms of advertising.

Georgia's advice about Content Strategy

Content Strategy is something you cannot afford not to do. Planning for content may not be as exciting as an edgy visual design or the latest animated feature, but content is the reason people come to your website. Spend some time in advance planning on how to best meet your visitors' needs for information, as this will provide better returns long after the color palette and fonts are yesterday's news.
