About Tiff

What are your roles at Five Q?

I serve both as a project manager at Five Q for our partners as well as the Marketing team’s project manager with an emphasis in social media marketing.

Where do you live?

I currently live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but am originally from the suburbs of Chicago.

What did you do before coming to Five Q?

Prior to joining the Five Q family, I have worked as a freelance newspaper writer and photojournalist; youth minister trainee; copy editor for a yearbook publisher; master control operator; live television newscast director--both weekends and mornings--in Rockford, Illinois, and Springfield, Missouri; graduate teaching assistant at Marquette University with an emphasis on broadcast production and techniques; and as a project manager at a small interactive marketing firm in Milwaukee.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love music, so I currently play the handbells at one local church and sing in the adult choir at another. I also volunteer as the co-chair for the University Outreach Committee of the Business Marketing Association-Milwaukee in creating programs for marketing communications students. Finally, I am passionate about spending time with family and friends, collecting key chains when I travel, reading, yelling at the television during the news (did I mention I used to work in TV), and adding to my infamous sock collection (currently over 200 pairs of “fun” socks).

Advice From Tiff

Tiff's advice about online video:

Great online videos are about one thing: telling a great story. Regardless of your budget, if your story is compelling (including a clear beginning, middle and end) with a clear call to action, then you can create a successful online marketing tool. Some tips for great online video:

* Write out your story: Clearly articulate your story/vision on paper first to make sure it holds together.
* Plan your shots: Sketch out each scene visually--even using stick figures--to make sure you aren’t missing any key points.
* Use a tripod or camera support: Steady video is less distracting and provides a more professional look (think back to old vacation videos).
* Check your equipment: After you shoot video or record audio for a few minutes, stop and check to make sure something recorded!
* Budget your time: Remember that it takes twice as long to edit your video as it does to shoot it.
* Don't forget distribution: Once you’re done with your video, share it with everyone using tools like YouTube, Brightcove, Vimeo, Daily Motion, and Viddler, but make sure to tag it properly for search engines.

Tiff's advice about working with a "project manager":

So what does it mean to be working with a project manager? Our job is to make sure that your (the partner) strategic marketing goals are executed by us (the agency) on time and under budget. Most often, this takes the form of detailed progress reports, regular partner check-in meetings, task list and timeline development, emergency request management, resource allocation, capacity planning, quality assurance, usability testing, training and research documentation, and even a little partner hand-holding. If you can step away from your project/requests and know that they are being handled with care and expertise, then we project managers have done our job.
