Audio & Video

What can you do with audio or video on the web?

There are many options for maximizing your audio and video content on the web, including putting together podcasts of previously recorded media, offering live streaming, or providing media downloads. Five Q can partner with you to review your media goals, and help you determine the best the platforms to meet your needs. We also have media experts on our team that can assist with enhancing your current media with best practices before distribution.

What is podcasting?

Simply put, podcasting is any online media content—audio or video—that is delivered using a Real Simple Syndication (RSS) feed. The name comes from audio files that were first downloaded onto an iPod, but accessing any digital content to your hand-held media player or on a website is now referred to as podcasting.

What is the difference between podcasting and streaming?

Podcasting refers to any media files that are recorded and downloaded prior to be listened to or viewed. These files can be saved and then shared with others. Streaming refers to any media content that is listened to or watched in real time. If live streams are recorded and then available for sharing, then they become podcasts.

Is podcasting and/or streaming expensive?

It is surprisingly cost effective to podcast or stream your media. Excluding any production costs for creating your media, the only costs you would incur would be for "usage" and "storage". Most media distribution services—like Amazon Web Services or iTunes—only charge for the amount of data being stored and used by people accessing your content (also known as data transfers) to and from the servers where the media is housed. These services also typically offer pay-as-you-go plans that are flexible depending on your needs.

How does Five Q help get my audio and video online?

Depending on your media goals and budget, Five Q can recommend various options for using the media you have to enhance your overall web marketing. For small organizations, setting up something as simple as a YouTube channel might be enough to get people to notice you. For large organizations, developing an integrated media plan for your streaming media and website database may help you better distribute your media to a global audience. Our goal is to help you realize the full potential of your media as part of your web presence.

How does online audio and video drive results?

With the changes Google and other search engines have implemented recently in their search algorithms, videos and audio files are now displaying higher in search results pages than standard web content. This means that for people searching for your content, they are more likely to find videos or audio files about your organization before they find your website. Now is the time to take the digital media you have to bring more people to your website and increase brand awareness for your organization.

Keys to Collaboration

  • It is all about storytelling.

Sure, anyone can put together a podcast or a YouTube video. But if you really want people to pay attention to your media, spend time thinking about your "story", the key take-away message you want to provide, and the call-to-action you want viewers/listeners to perform. Just being "cute" or "funny" is not enough.

    KISS: Keep It Simple, Seriously!

You do not need 3D computer animations, fancy artistic images, or a custom soundtrack to make your media memorable. Remember that you can be creative without a big budget. Stay true to your organization's goals and brand, and this will come through to your audience.

    Test, test, and test again.

Since technology is ever changing, test often to make sure that your media plays on different platforms, browsers, and operating systems. Know what formats your target audience will be accessing your media on most often, and optimize it for them first. Nothing is more frustrating than spending time and money on a great video or podcast if no one can access or watch it.

    "Going viral" is never guaranteed.

No one can guarantee that your media will be the next big thing. Trends come and go, and you never want to be on the downswing of a trend. Instead, focus on your core messaging and optimizing your media tags for search engines. This will help people purposefully searching for your content find your organization.
