Wisdom Right at Your Fingertips
Truth For Life partners with Five Q for developing their mobile appsAuthor: Tiff Pua
Have you ever heard something said at church that really struck a chord, only to forget it moments after you leave the parking lot? For the Bible-teaching ministry of Truth For Life, making sure that everyone can access sermon, devotional, or Gospel content was vitally important in continuing the lasting impact of their messages.
Communications Manager Jenn Nenadov and her staff wanted to expand the media platforms for delivering their teaching-rich content. Already demonstrating strong success in both the radio and online streaming media realms, they turned to Five Q to execute their plans for growing their ministry through mobile applications.
Android or iPhone?
This was not Truth For Life's first foray into mobile. They created an early version of an iPhone app in 2010 that offered basic information about the ministry; downloads and streaming of broadcast sermons; and the daily devotional.
But as the popularity of smartphones grew and traffic to the website from Android phones increased, there was now an opportunity to reach more users through an expanded mobile app for both platforms.
Simply put, the app needed to:
- Feature the daily sermon content and devotional
- Provide audio downloads for sermon content
- Display archived content that was easily searchable via a mobile device
- Allow users to share content with links to social media and email
- Communicate Truth For Life's mission with content and links to donate to the ministry
The key would be integrating the current website content onto a mobile platform that was easy to use. We worked in partnership with SubSplash to develop the mobile apps using their "church app" platform. Existing website content was modified for display and searchability on mobile devices; customized designs ensured that Truth For Life's branding was easily scalable to smaller screens yet still remained consistent.

There IS an App for That
Since launching the revamped iPhone app and new Android app in late January 2011, the free app has had over 1,000 installs on Android alone in the first two months. Additionally, strategic promotion of the mobile apps on the website, in email marketing, and through social media have increased traffic to those download links on the Truth For Life website 91%, with the percentage of website visitors via mobile devices increasing an average of 13% in the first month since launch.
Most importantly, the feedback and reviews from mobile app users has been overwhelmingly positive to not only the app feature but to the teachings of Truth For Life. It is this continued awareness of the ministry that makes us at Five Q proud to be partnered with them.
